ALMIRAH DESIGN
An almirah design was a free-standing chest or closet that served as a storage area for vestments in a church's sacristy. In the contemporary definition, an almirah design is equivalent with a cabinet, closet, wardrobe, etc., but not with a sandook, patara, chest, or box. Because it is a closed or shuttered storage entity, it cannot be compared to storage with shelves in a niche, alcove, bay, or recess. There are those who question if a chest of drawers or bureau used for keeping tiny items such as undergarments, make-up, writing sheets and pens, study chests, etc.
